New Years Ever 2022

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Good morning.   The last day of 2022 but how exciting for a whole new year to be just one sleep away.

I have already written out my 'To Do' list and will work down it today, not too much but I do like to end the year with a spotlessly clean house with nothing left out.  Do you do something similar or is it just me?

Are you making a New Years resolution or two?  I have a couple jotted down and will just see how I get on with them.  One of them is to have more time for me, to do the things that I like to do and that are important to me. 

We had the Derby Dabblers Christmas Fuddle last night and I cant remember the last time we all laughed so much.  Here are some of the photos taken by official photographers Sylvia Twells and Jayne Wall.

Good morning.  I hope you have had a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful Boxing Day.  Ours was very quiet again (a bit like last year).  Hubby decided to pick up a virus (not covid) and his influenza became a little more serious on Christmas Eve when his breathing changed.  We are so lucky in the UK to have a 111 service, we call them, after a few hours a doctor called us back.  He gave hubby a full assessment over the telephone and organised some antibiotics to be ready to collect from the local pharmacy.  I am so pleased to say that today hubby turned a corner, he is feeling quite well again and his breathing is back to normal, phew.

Of course it did mean that our Family Festivities for 11 turned into a cozy Christmas for two.  We dont mind as we shall have a family meal to celebrate the New Year.

Christmas Day I had a day in front of the TV, really, I mean a whole day and evening watching films.  I have never felt so tired so yesterday I made sure I did a few bits and pieces instead.  Oh I was so spoiled by friends and family and received some wonderful presents so thank you to everyone.  You really dont know what it means to me.  I have had lots of cards which I shall share with you tomorrow.

This is the last Christmas card I made which was for hubby.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I really did miss holding all the Christmas Card nights in 2022 as there werent too many and I had a bit of a job making enough cards to send out but for 2023 there will be at least 9 evenings of them.  If you would like to come along with your own products and projects please do.  Here are all the details for our get together in January.

Tags, cooking and Derby Dabblers

 

Good morning and what a morning.  It is 11 degrees out there, I really cant believe the difference it makes.  So that will be all my windows open today, lots of fresh air through the house.  A great way to start the week apart from I overslept.  I really dont know how I do it especially when I had to be up and out of the door really early, oh well, these things happen.

I shall  be cooking a beef bourgignon in the slow cooker, something that I do enjoy (good job the windows will be open as the smell of bacon lingers, apologies to any visitors this morning).  There will be enough cooked for today and tomorrow and it is always better on the second day.  Then I shall have the pleasure of getting ahead and starting the January birthday cards.  I guess that these need posting early just in case the postal strikes get in the way.  It also gives me chance to start my Birthday Book from Stampin' Up, ohhh I shall share this with you later.  So a busy but pleasureable day today.

Once again ( I do it every year), I ran out of gift tags last week so I had to make 20 up, just to be sure I have enough for 2022.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I used the Jingle Jingle stamp set and a bit of colouring in.  Very theraputic and very quick.  Another job I must do once a month during 2023, on Christmas Card day I shall make a few tags too, oh yes, did I not mention it?  I shall be having one day a month to keep on top of my festive makes for 2023.  I hope to make bags, bows, cards and tags.  You will be most welcome to come along and join in from 5.30pm until 9pm.  The first one will be on Friday 20th January, Festive Friday.

Mnemosyno and Koliva

Good morning, not so cold out there today, just -1 (minus 1) when I got up rather than -7 of yesterday.

Today is a special day,  a memorial service is being held in Cyprus for our daughter whom we lost just 4 years ago.  This service is held the Sunday prior to the anniversary of the death, it is called the Mnemosyno (memorial).  The family and Christianas friends will go to the service which will be followed by a gathering at the graveside where the grave will be blessed and then everyone goes back to the family home to reminisce.

Unfortunately I couldnt be there this year.  As the UK have come out of the EU we are only allowed to visit Cyprus 90 days in every 6 months and of course we have THE wedding in June.  So we shall have a quiet day at home celebrating her life with our own memories.  

 

This is called Koliva and can be made from various seeds, the most popular being seasame, sultanas, blanched almonds, pomegrantes, walnuts, hazelnuts and pine nuts.  There are lots of spices including cinnamon, aniseed and or cumin.  Each region of Cyprus as well as Greece have their own recipe for making this.  Once everything is mixed, you cover the bottom half of the dish/plate but you also leave some of the ingredients for decoration.  I dont have a photo of the one that is used today and the picture I have used is taken from the internet but it usually has the persons initials on it or the cross.   Everyone who visits the church  today will take some of this to eat.

Good morning and what a very cold start to our day we have today.  It is minus seven, yep -7.  It has been a few years since I have seen that.  It will be an early shower and getting dressed today as I cant cope with being cold.  The heating will also be on a little longer brrrr.

One thing that the weather wont bother is the FREE SHIPPING DAY today.  

All orders of £60 or more will get shipped for free to your address.  If you dont have £60 worth, please do get in touch and I shall add whatever you want onto an order that will come to me.  Please remember though, it wont be here for Christmas.  Something to look forward to in the new year though, whoop whoop.  I shall place my order at around 6pm this evening.

The Craft Room is having a bit of a sort out and move around.  I am really pleased to say that I have finished 2 full boxes of half finished projects but then I discovered another one....oh well, it will keep me busy on cold days.  I have taken to bringing my crafting inside the house to do in the kitchen on the dining room table. Going crackers

Good morning and what an extremely cold start to the day. brrrr  Cars most certainly need de icing today.

I have been making a few crackers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I cant tell you what is in them but they are quite a size, 8" long by 2" wide so I can pop something special inside.  These are from papers called Celebrate Everything and are a host set.  Should you fancy a pack (48 sheets in all) please let me know.  I loved making these and feel that a few more will be made in the very near future.

I am still not quite ready for Santas visit but thats okay.  I am not in panic mode yet.  The Christmas tree will come down this weekend and then hopefully, we can just sit back and relax...well sort of, but you know what I mean.

Birthdays, more wreath making and more sales

Good morning.  Brrrr it is another cold start to the day here in Derby.  I am hoping to have a play in the craft room this afternoon and / or this evening.  Got a few birthdays coming up and I do like to get organised in advance, especially with the postal strikes.

Friday night I went out with my sister and my nieces to a wreath making class and it was superb.  We got 4 glasses of gin to try too but I could only manage 2 of them.  I must say, I now have a liking of flavoured gin mixed with lemonade. 

 

It was our youngest daughters birthday earlier in the week and this is the card that we gave her.
